What happens when you open an Instagram post first thing in the morning and you listen to the most touching rendition of Reflections by William… you cry , because his story is so beautiful and his gift born from aloneness so phenomenal that you forever respect that different minds see different worlds. William was not able to talk properly simply because he sees his World as Sounds and Colours instead of mindless articulated words and so he felt that he didn’t quite fit but this inspired him to compose music. He taught himself how to play the piano not by scales but by ear and composed my favourite piece REFLECTIONS.

This evoked so many memories and emotions of when my beautiful son at the age of seven battled to spell and was made to feel like he didn’t belong because he saw his words as sound, pictures and colours. He heard words as phonetic sounds not just academic evolutions of ancient languages. He saw words as a composition of sticks and circles.

The word LOVE is actually made of L one stick vertical and one stick horizontal and the O is a circle, V is two sticks touching at a point and E is one stick vertical two sticks spaced horizontally touching the edge of the first stick at the top and bottom and a discreet little stick touching the middle of the first stick.

No, he never explained how the sticks worked visually in his imagination but of course because I love words and I am a romantic I described it for you as I saw it for the love of his mind.

This is so true of people like me that curate spaces and sees emotion in objects. It is true for all the artists, innovators and creative directors like my son.
