A THOUSAND KISSES DEEP

I love the one that I am with

Victoria Arthur Sinclair

Journeys, like artists, are born not made

In my journey in Life I have met extraordinary people that are all still my favourites today.

I have the intensity of a shooting star and as a result I can’t single out favourite people.

When I am with someone that I have devoted my time and attention to I am authentically grateful and totally committed and invested in that moment.

Yes, you might think that I am flirtatious because of such a libertine comment such as ….I love the one I am with.

No, on the contrary.

It is simply that I listen to people with attention and intention.

My heart is a thousand kisses deep as poetically said by Leonard Cohen

So, let me enlighten you by sharing with you my deepest truth and that is; that I fall in love very rarely in my life.

In romantic love, only once.

In motherly love, only once.

In love with a dog, only once.

In love with a sister, only once.

My friendships are utterly precious and I honour them all.

I had the pleasure of listening to the fabulous story of a woman I had never met before whilst having breakfast in Prince Albert in the Great Karoo, yesterday.

She was born in 1935, was a teacher, never married, won a an award for a speech at the tender age of 21 on the subject of why did the teaching staff rooms were separate for men and women. Her first speech ever after finishing her teaching degree.

Brave, I say and controversial at the same time.

Her ideals, dreams and experiences are still alive in her pale blue eyes.

Freedom she said was always her end goal.

Went camping with a doctor, a watchmaker and another female in 1959.

She was in London at that time and to earn extra money she did casual work at Woolworths and her job was to stamp labels that ironically said Pineapples made in South Africa.

She used the money for her camping trip to Europe and of course she fell in love with Italy and learnt Italian to be a tutor in an Italian family homestead.

Born in Cape Town, not made, I say tongue in cheek !

High lineage,of course but always worked for her fame if not fortune.

I was riveted by her many stories and so loved being with her.

She also told me that my sister Stella whose birthday would have been on the 30th of November shared her birthday with Sir Winston Churchill.

When it was time for me to depart she said please take my name and number it is so rare that someone is interested in listening.

I loved that one that I was with … because for a moment in my lifetime I could see her life like a film.

I spent a memorable morning in Prince Albert where my son lives, he is my one love.

All these colours are inspired by the semi-arid landscape of the Karoo.

Dance with me till the end of time … Leonard Cohen.
