I was fourteen years old and my little sister Stella was ten when my beautiful mother passed away.
It was the month of August.
December came and it was the first Christmas without a mother. She raised us as true Catholics.
I am a believer and my sister Stella was a devout Christian until she went to Heaven in November 2010.
So, on that first Christmas I was quite anxious not knowing what would happen to us.
At my school everyone was excited discussing their plans and building their Nativity Scenes with real moss. Mosses typically form dense green mats, often in damp or shady locations and it looked to me, at the time that, yes, a soft mat of natural greenery would be a beautiful ground cover for the humble bed of hay on which baby Jesus was going to sleep.
Suddenly, I felt this huge sense of loss. I had no plans for Christmas.

My religion teacher, Judite Costa had seven children and was a kind soul . Just at the precise moment when I was feeling lost, she looked at me and said this Golden Angel is for you.
That was my most adored present. It was a small Angel made of gold cardboard with beautiful wings and with a glittering halo.

That day I learnt that I would need to look at the World with glittering eyes.
And above all,
Watch with glittering eyes the whole
World around you
because the greatest secrets are always
hidden in the most
unlikely places.
Those who don’t
believe in magic
will never find it.
