Africa is a magnificent and fascinating continent.
The Ashanti Empire was an Akan empire and kingdom from 1701 to 1957, in what is now modern day Ghana. Their currency in days gone by were sea shells,in fact, the Cowry shell was used in transactions. Gold bars were their next currency. An ancient culture in the Sub-Saharan region that has intrigued many writers.
Swahili is derived from the Arabic language and it means ‘of the coast’. This language is spoken by the Swahili people still today and I first got to hear it in Mozambique, my native country.
I was born free and wild in Africa.
Swahili has 16 to 20 percent of loan words from Arabic.
Amazingly it is spoken from Zambia to Zanzibar. Malawi to Kenya and Uganda.
It is believed that many tribes in the Sub-Saharan region speak Swahili.
I love the richness of Africa, the Orange sunsets, the infinite Savannah, the creative spirit of the people that still make their baskets and their pottery in the traditional way.
My heart belongs to the conservation of wild animals.
