SENSE AND SENSIBILITY

I wish,as well as everybody else,to be perfectly happy;but, like everybody else,it must be in my own way

JANE AUSTEN Sense and Sensibility 1811

It is as true today as it was in the 19th Century that it is prudent to behave sensibly but it is reckless to abandon oneself to the excess of Sensibility.

In 2020 the entire World was and is being tested to the limits of sense and sensibility.

We are all One World and we have to be mindful of ourselves and others in order to survive.

The truth is that we are approaching the end of the year and at this time of the year, we are often inclined, to do a Life Audit to evaluate what did we do with our bank of 365 days in 2020 and what are we going to do with the next 365 days of 2021. We are so privileged,we are alive and well, for now. We must be thankful for every breath we take.

In the silence of the month of April 2020, I found joy in the barking of dogs and the early morning singing of the birds. Nobody on the streets. Not a sound, not even music. No freedom to go as you please. The beauty of a rose in my garden took my breath way.

I learnt how to cut the lawn and I also learned how to be a good neighbour by sharing the delicious lemons from my lemon tree. I asked permission to make noise with my ancient lawnmower. I found love and respect for my community.

Words like confinement, social distancing, masks and isolation were all new to me.

I longed for the lost freedom that I took for granted.

We have all lost so much this year. But, we have regained our sense and sensibility. We all have attempted to recreate our lives. We created new digital businesses,we learnt that our home is our temple, our family is very important and that children deserve a better World.

Animals loved their new found freedom.

I found a new value system, where less is more.

Quality of Life is a secret treasure that all human beings need to achieve in their lifetime.
